Hello! My name is Sanjib Kumar Mistry, and I am from the beautiful islands of Andaman & Nicobar. I was born in Govindanagar, Havelock (now Swaraj Dweep) and now live in Birshanagar, Attampahar, Port Blair. I am a hardworking and service-oriented professional with over 20 years of experience in different fields like shipping, customer service, sales, logistics, travel, hospitality, insurance, and business management.
Right now, I run a small grocery shop in Ramnagar, Attampahar, and also work in the travel business, helping people with ferry and flight bookings, tour packages, and ticketing services. Along with that, I am a certified insurance agent with GoDigit Insurance, providing motor, health, and travel insurance. I’m also learning Advanced Excel with AI from Ira Skill and Digital Marketing from Digital Azadi to grow my business with the help of modern tools and online strategies.
My Career Journey
I started my career in the year 2000 after completing my Seaman Training at Indian Seafarers Training Academy, Chennai. I worked at sea and learned how to stay disciplined, focused, and responsible — skills that still guide me today.
Over the years, I took on different roles and learned many new things:
- I worked in direct marketing and computer sales training.
- I started my first business — a multi-service shop in Havelock, where I offered newspapers, stationery, an STD booth, and an internet café.
- I worked in telecom sales with Airtel and BSNL.
- I did guest coordination for hotels and resorts.
- I worked as a life insurance agent.
- I even supplied frozen food to top resorts in the Andaman Islands.
But in 2008, a big fire destroyed my shop and I lost everything. It was a very difficult time, but I did not give up. I took it as a lesson and started again, stronger than before.
Back to the Sea — and Beyond
In 2010, I returned to sea work on MV Katchal, and later joined MAK Logistics (Makruzz) as a Senior Customer Service Executive. For eight years, I handled ticket bookings, ferry guest services, and helped thousands of travellers enjoy safe and smooth journeys. This job helped me improve my skills in customer service, communication, and problem-solving.
In 2018, I had to shift to Port Blair due to family health reasons. I continued my work in the travel and tourism industry, helping guests with their travel needs and giving them reliable, personal service.
COVID Challenges — and New Opportunities
When COVID-19 hit the world, everything changed. Tourism stopped, business went down, and it became hard to earn. But I took it as a chance to restart with new ideas:
- I opened a grocery store to serve the local community.
- I continued online ticket bookings for government and private ferries, and domestic flights.
- I became a certified GoDigit insurance agent to help people protect their vehicles, health, and travel plans.
These services helped me stay connected with people, even in hard times. My customers trust me because I always try to give honest advice and reliable service.
What I’m Learning Now
To grow my business in today’s digital world, I’m learning:
- Advanced Excel with AI – to manage data, make reports, and improve my work using smart tools.
- Digital Marketing – to promote my services online through social media, SEO, and advertising.
- I’m also working toward becoming a Microsoft Office Expert, which will help me serve my customers better and faster.
